A disgrace for the City of Newark

Former Maria Jeritza estate in serious disrepair in Newark.
While giving a tour to a colleague from New York for the Cherry Blossoms, I took a detour to show him the Jeritza estate. It was a mistake a few days ago.
The roof of the guest house seems to be imploding. This would be a Historic Landmark disaster for the Forest Hill section of Newark and the Opera community from here to Vienna and The Met. In conjunction with The Metropolitan new production of DER ROSENKAVALIER they honored Jeritza on the Grand Tier with an exhibit of her costume jewelry as worn on The Met stage. A colleague brought it to my attention only a few years ago so Jeritza is still honored and remembered at The Met.
Maria Jeritza was a superstar at the Metropolitan, Vienna, Czech, + LaScala Opera who premiered Opera’s by Puccini, Strauss, + Janacek. Jeritza also loved, lived, and stayed at her home and estate in Newark NJ for 40 years. Let's not abandon her heritage now.
The New York Times noted in their obituary she was a star of Opera’s Golden Age in the 20th century. She was an Opera Diva, who lived, retired, and died In Newark in 1982 at 94. She attended and supported opera at The Mosque Theatre and Symphony Hall in Newark, NJ. Her appearances would generate instant applause at each performance with her blond hair and blue tinted glasses.
Homage to Maria Jeritza, who resided In Newark and made opera andmusic history in Brno, Newark, The Met, Vienna and inspired and worked with Giacomo Puccini, Leos Janacek, and Richard Strauss during her stellar career.

As a Newark native I have seen Newark in many guises over the years from St Benedict's Prep Drama Guild to my Certificate of Appreciation from Essex County College as Arts Editor of The Ecco, and Editor of Shapes of Things. My Arts career began via Intercultural Studies and Contemporary Arts at Ramapo College where I produced a Classical Concert Series featuring Emmanuel Ax; Fred Sherry; Ursula Oppens and Joyce Mathis when they were Young Concert Artists. Emmanuel Ax had Tea in my kitchen before his recital.
Claudio Abbado invited me to spend a season in Milan at LaScala as a guest directing assistant. Later, I was a Guest of Aer Lingus for The Dublin Theatre Festival in Ireland and afterwards directed THE GIGLI CONCERT in Rome (in Italian).
More recently, I worked with French Cultural Services honoring the Orchestre de Lyon, France at NJPAC in 2017. Earlier, I produced 5 Festivals in the City of Paterson honoring Paterson, France, Ireland, and Italy.
